We left out of Chef Marina with Emmet and Mike about 6:30 this morning. There was no breeze and it was a little foggy. The water temperature was 66. We made it out to the well jackets first and started with shrimp on the bottom, shrimp under a cork, and plastics. The tide was supposed to start falling at 5:15am but there was no movement to be found. As the sun came up we stared getting a few specks all 3 ways. We kept catching a few while waiting for some water movement and when the tide finally started falling the bite just about stopped. We kept hearing some splashing in the water and looked to the east and saw some little mullets jumping and something big chasing them. We eased over there with the trolling motor and as soon as we got there the disappeared and showed up again to the east. We went over there and they move back to the west. Eased over there and got close enough to start casting. I had a tandem chartreuse matrix shad and right after it hit the water it was obvious something big had it. It was a huge bull red. I Fought him for a while before we got him in the net. Emmet had one on too and it broke his line pretty quick. Turned out that I had two on at the same time and one of my matrix shads was gone. I Put the red back in the water and went back looking for specks. Only a few at the jackets so we started looking for birds. There were none to be found so we went to fishing outside of the cuts and found them off and on mostly using plastics. Made another run out to the jackets and found nothing there so we headed to the house. We ended up catching about a hundred with 42 keeper specks and one white trout. We also caught two huge sheepshead and released them. The lure of the day was Mike's crippled chartreuse beetle under a cork. Beautiful day and a fun trip. -agfish
