... My list of bad decisions, that is! Like the time I sold my super nintendo to buy a sega saturn. Or that night I thought licking a stripper's toes was a good idea. Or when I didn't change my pants after an all night bender, forgot the pocket contained a pack of them horny goat weed pills, and attended a birthday party at a petting zoo...huge mistake there, huge!
Today's poor decision was believing the forecast.
Multiple sources called for 1-2 foot waves, increasing winds, and guaranteed thunderstorms. So I resigned myself to trying the Mandeville Harbor in case I needed to make a speedy escape for safety. I arrived in Mandeville, unloaded the yak, and was on the water by 6:30. Had only a ripple on the surface. The water clarity was good with over a foot of visibility. I paddled east of the harbor. I trolled and casted all the way to Fountainbleau, which is in Mandeville. Glass minnows and mullet in 6 inches of water is all I saw. I saw a "jack pack attack" once, and no more. I made my way back to Mandeville harbor casting or trolling the whole time. I did not get a single bite. I put my yak back into the truck at 9:30. There was barely a cloud over the whole lake, and the wind was still next to nothing. I decided to go where I should've gone to begin with, Lacombe. Stupid forecast!
I parked at the end of lake rd, which is in Lacombe. I was way late (10ish), the sun was way up, the air was HOT, the wind was nowhere, and the lake was glass slick. All of these variables together mean slim chances for catching on the shorelines, but I don't let that bother me. I launched anyway because I enjoy being out there. The water was even clearer here, and there was more mullet in deeper water. I trolled the 6-8 foot line west to Goose Pt, stopping a few times here and there to cast. Stayed around the point a good while flipping a spoon and doing some cork popping as well. Wind, waves, and clouds finally started building. I was hot and tired, so I slowly made my way back to truck fishing along the way. Off the water sometime after 1.
I stopped at Glockner's and had a medium mango sno-ball. It was orgasmic! It hit the spot just as their soft shell poboys used to back in the day! I pulled into Bayou Adventures, which is located in Lacombe, to steal a little a/c, look at pretty sparkly thingys I can't splurge on, and to inhale a little of that cricket smell. Talked with John a bit, he was nice enough to dispose of my sno-ball cup and not make fun of my cheap equipment.
The action was very light for me today. I caught 3 ladyfish and 1 small hardhead. I was able to find two small reds (17,19) hiding in the grass beds. Stuck a tag in both of them, and sent them on their way.
I saw three yakkers west of me in Mandeville. One of whom's yak was the same colors as mine. I hope he's not out there to give me a bad name, cause I do that just fine on my own!
I saw another yak on the way to Goose Pt, and at least three east of Bayou Lacombe. Hopefully they all faired better with the catching than I, and will maybe post up a report!!
I paddled short distances today, but the heat really beat me down hard. I had a great time though, and will hit the water again soon. Maybe tomorrow, gotta check the forecast
Oh, in case I forgot to mention it, I fished Mandeville and Lacombe....haters!
