I got out with my 3yr old this morning for a quick trip on the river. My son literally jumped out of the bed this morning when I woke him up. We had our usual waffle house breakfast before the father-son trip and took off for the launch. We get to our first spot and hook up with a nice spotted bass. After a little bit of water hauling my son and I make a move to another spot and pick up another spotted bass and a largemouth. I make another cast and hand the rod over to my son. As he starts his retrieve the rod doubles almost pulling the rod out of his hands. We get drug around for a good 3-5 minutes before we see the monsterous garfish. The beast gives us a good look at it while it was next to the boat. My son swears he had a whale on his line! This thing put a whippin' on my son before the fish comes unbuttoned. He was sweating his behind off but was smiling throughout the entire fight. The crank-bait was demolished from the beast. I tied another crank on and make another couple casts and the rod doubles again. I hand the rod over to my son and the fight is on. We get dragged all around trying to fight another huge garfish. This time it strips about half the line off the reel while my son was hanging on with everything he had. We fight the fish to the boat and we get a good look at the beast before it jumps clean out of the water splashing my son and pops the 12lb flouro-carbon. At this time my son is whipped and we decide to start chasing bream. We ended the day at 11am and had 2 (14") spots 1 (12") large mouth 8 or 9 bluegill and 2 beastly garfish between (4&5'). My son had a blast and we were able to beat the heat and the weekend traffic. We get home and he couldn't wait to tell his mom what he hooked into today! - ronaldpierre 6/22/13
